“Deep-sea Totem” (2019)

Image of a carving on a totem pole found at a depth of 55 feet in the waters off Ayak Island or Sledge Island in the Bering Sea. It is speculated it depicts a deep-sea creature once caught by an ancient tribe that once resided on the island. Traces of a red pigment were preserved in the very cold water which allowed a close match for the illustration.

‘Totem’ (2019)

Have passed many majestic dead trees in the area and always wanted to draw one. Draw group met today at the Skipanon Marina for our biweekly two hour session. I did this sketch of an imaginary ancient tree in a 8.5″ x 11″ sketchbook using a Pentel Graphgear 500 0.7mm mechanical pencil, carpenter pencil, Raffine 4B and 7B graphite pencils. Came out alright I think.
